Workforce Investment Act
The federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) was signed into law in August 1998, and went into effect in Georgia in July 2000. The Governor designated the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) as the state agency responsible for implementation of WIA. Oversight of WIA was transferred to the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development effective July 1, 2012.
There are many One-Stop Centers established under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) which provide education, training, and employment-related workforce services for Job Seekers and Employers in Georgia. In many areas of the state, GDOL Career Centers serve as WIA One-Stops, but One-Stops may also be located at technical colleges or the site of another workforce partner.
For additional information about WIA One-Stop locations and services, please contact the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development. |
