**COMPANY IS OFFERING A $1000 RECRUITING BONUS** SUMMARY: Operates U.S. Coast Guard inspected vessels across the Savannah River and/or near coastal waterways and sounds. Supervises deckhands. Assures safe operation and navigation of the vessel while underway and enforces safety guidelines and rules for the vessel crew and passengers. Operates vessel in varying weather conditions. Interprets radar and weather instruments. Work is reviewed by superiors through written reports and by U.S. Coast Guard inspections. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned): * Serves as Vessel Master. * Inspects vessel to ensure that crew and passengers observe regulations pertaining to safety and efficient operation of vessel. * Conducts safety meetings and emergency drills to assure maximum protection for crew and passengers. * Maintains safety equipment and periodically inspect such equipment to ensure proper working conditions. * Assists in U.S. Coast Guard and departmental safety inspections. * Supervises and instructs subordinate personnel in all aspects of ferry operations. * Maintains thorough knowledge of the operation and basic maintenance of the vessel. Confers with maintenance personnel on routine and emergency repair and maintenance problems and takes appropriate action to remedy problems. * Supervises the crew in the loading and unloading of passengers. * Responds to and resolves passenger complaints. * Supervises collection and accountability of fare media as necessary. * Maintains vessel's log. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: * High School Diploma/GED required. * Minimum of three (3) years of experience required. * Possession of valid U.S. Coast Guard Master License of an inspected vessel of 100 tons or greater and Marine Radio Operators Permit required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Directly supervises 1 to 2 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints, and resolving problems. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute rate, ratio, and percent. Draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING SKILLS: Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Valid U.S. Coast Guard license as a Master of inspected vessels of 100 tons or over. Valid certificate as a Radar Observer issued by an institution approved by the U.S. Coast Guard. Valid Marine Radio Operator permits issued by the Federal Communications Commission. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Meet appropriate Coast Guard physical requirements to maintain a license. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position, converse, and exchange information. The employee is occasionally required to move about and ascend/descend. The employee must frequently move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
