Recovery and Employment Assistance Lifelines,
REALifelines, is a collaborative effort between the U.S. Department of
Labor and the U.S. Department of Defense to ensure that every service member
wounded or injured in the War on Terrorism, and their families, are
provided the resources they need to successfully transition from the
military to a career in the private sector.
Begun at Walter Reed Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Medical Center,
REALifelines is now active at Fort Benning and Fort Stewart in Georgia.
The linchpin of the program is the network of Georgia
Department of Labor Career Centers across the state, each of which
houses the veterans' services staff.
Beginning before they are released to return to their homes, these wounded and
injured veterans receive counseling on career options and individualized
training and re-employment plans. Upon return, they have a pre-assigned
case manager to assist them in completing the transition. Working
with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Rehabilitation Services
Division of the Georgia Department of Labor, and the broad range of
other services available through the workforce system, the case managers
will facilitate a successful passage to a new and rewarding career.

other online resources. |
