Position Summary This position is stationed in Savannah, GA and reports to the General Manger of Supply Chain. The Materials Manager is operationally responsible to manage subordinates and suppliers in the performance of material- and production-planning, and inventory control functions including but not limited to: production scheduling, material scheduling, expediting and handling, transportation, distribution and logistics, goods receiving, warehousing, line feed, and outbound shipments. Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities * Assume full accountability for direct reports and responsible to continuously improve personnel performance and cultivate a competent materials organization. * Plan, lead and control material flow throughout the internal and external supply chain within stipulated time frames. * Provide support to production on all material issues to meet production sign-out targets and liaise with sales to align production schedules with end-customer expectations. * Provide support to Purchasing and Engineering on all supply chain attributes and timing to ensure flawless New Product Introduction and the timely introduction of Product Changes. * Regularly prepare actual and forecast reports to appraise the material & freight performance against budget, and spearhead actions to mitigate the identified risks and threats. * Ensure that Continuous Improvement Tools and Techniques are utilized to improve production control operations. * Develop and maintain strong cross functional internal networks and dependable supplier relationships. * Up to 25% travel to domestic and international supplier locations. The incumbent is required to always maintain a valid passport. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Management or equivalent with 7 years’ progressive experience in a materials role within a design and manufacturing environment, preferably with material planning, material expediting, and inventory control. * A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience with demonstrated personnel performance management. * Extensive knowledge of Material Planning, Inventory Control and Production Scheduling in SAP (or SAP equivalent) and advanced user of MS Excel. * Ability to obtain a security clearance for Government and Defense contracts. * Must pass any drug screens, background checks and any pre-employments tests as applicable. Preferred Qualifications * APICS Certification, multilingual and experience with international suppliers are desirable. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies - Requires candidate to: * Be a multi-tasker who readily communicates across cultural, organizational, regional and international boundaries. * Communicate with an acute sense of timely and relevant escalation and de-escalation through the appropriate chain of command both internally and externally. * Be flexible and adaptable to changing production requirements and be willing to perform at all hours during which production occurs. * Be familiar with a variety of manufacturing concepts, practices and procedures, particularly those related to materials, quality and purchasing functions within a design and manufacturing enterprise, including but not limited to: MRP II; S&OP; Warehouse Management; Freight Management; Hazardous materials regulations; Inco terms; NPI; PDCA; Kanban; 6; 5S. * Effectively delegate tasks and secure timely task completion. * Be customer focused with highly effective conflict and risk management abilities. * Demonstrate ability to educate and develop material planners in the material planning and expediting role. * Demonstrate an understanding for various material handling methods and techniques, warehousing, packaging and transportation, logistics and distribution.
