Description:

The Regional Economic Development Consultant calls on business and community leaders and builds important working relationships with individuals throughout the region. This position serves as a critical liaison between the GDOL and organizations throughout the state that participate in Economic Development activities, for the purpose of marketing available GDOL services. Additional job responsibilities include: seeking opportunities for business development and advancing the creation of jobs and investment in the region; working with Georgia companies considering expansion in Georgia, to positively influence investment decisions for Georgia; assisting other business development efforts of the GDEcD, DCA TCSG and other economic development partners with project location assistance; Promote programs such as Work Ready, Quick Start, etc. Must be willing to travel extensively within the region of assignment. Must have strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to create and deliver presentations and conduct professional meetings with high-level executives. Must have strong interpersonal skills. Must have experience directly supervising staff. Entry Qualifications: To be considered minimally qualified, applicants must meet the following: Completion of a bachelor's degree AND three (3) years of professional-level experience in economic development and/or workforce development programs and experience directly supervising staff OR Master’s degree and two (2) years of described experience; OR Five (5) years professional experience as described experience. There are currently 3 vacancies (one in each region) Region 2 consists of the following Georgia counties: Union, Towns, Rabun, Dawson, Lumpkin, White, Habersham, Stephens, Forsyth, Hall, Banks, Hart, and Franklin. Region 5 consists of the following Georgia counties: Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Walton, and Jasper. Region 8 consists of the following Georgia counties: Harris, Talbot, Taylor, Macon, Dooly, Crisp, Clay, Randolph, Quitman, Stewart, Webster, Schley, Sumter, Marion, Muscogee, and Chattahoochee. Preferred Qualifications: Preference may be given to applicants who, in addition to the above Minimum Qualifications, also possess one or more of the following: * Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, International Affairs, Economics, Real Estate or closely related field. * Two years of full-time, paid, professional-level employment with a local, state or federal Economic Development agency. * Two years Regional Professional Sales experience. * Knowledge of applicable federal, state, department and/or program laws, rules, policies and procedures or guidelines, e.g., workforce development grants. * Recent Experience or knowledge of local employment and training service delivery systems. * Experience working with other state agencies or other collaborative partners. * Currently live in the region. * Current established relationships with business community, economic development activities, etc. Vacancy Open To: • GDOL employees eligible for promotion, transfer, or demotion. • Current state employees who are eligible for promotion, transfer, or demotion. • Applicants from the general public. Additional Information: * The Consultant will work from their home office; * Extensive travel will be required daily throughout assigned region; * Selectee must already live within the region or be willing to relocate at their own expense, and; * Selectee must have established relationship with business and economic development communities in the region.
