To assist with this essential mission, we are currently searching for an experienced professional to serve as our next Communications Specialist II, working side-by-side with our department’s Communications Director. The GDOL Communications Office staff provides research and clearance for media inquiries and interview requests for GDOL offices and the Commissioner. All internal and external communications are managed by the Communications Office and the staff assists with special projects assigned by the director, the Chief of Staff and the Commissioner. This unit works closely with the leadership team to understand their initiatives and goals and communicate them effectively. The department’s presence on social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube, as well as the department’s website are all overseen by the Communications Office. The Communications Office is also responsible for the writing, editing and publishing of all monthly press releases, including daily social media announcements, job market reports and monthly unemployment rate press releases. The staff creates presentations, newsletters, annual reports, and other departmental publications, providing graphic design, high-resolution digital images, in-house printing and special projects support to all departments within the agency. The day-to-day responsibilities of the Communications Specialist II include: *Writing, editing and publishing real-time media announcements and news releases; *Participating in collaborative meetings with Director of Communications and other internal stakeholders for campaign development, activation, and reporting; *Managing all requisitions and invoices that need to be paid through the Communications Department; *Assisting with projects at the discretion of the Communications Director; *Coordinates reporting and analytics for social, print, and media content; *Training the social media response team on procedure and execution; *Serving as a contact for media. The Communications Specialist II must possess the ability to build rapport with a wide range of people - great interpersonal skills are a must. The Communications Specialist II must also have the ability to work independently, as well as co-operatively with others in a team or group environment and to establish, build, and maintain positive relationships to ensure deadlines and objectives are met. Preferred Qualifications: *Strong background in social media platforms. *Strong writing skills, both for media and technical audiences. *Experience in writing and publishing media announcements. *Experience with strategic communications. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of communications or related experience OR Four years of communications or related experience OR One year of experience required at the lower level Communications Spec 1 (GSP040) or position equivalent. Salary will be determined by selected applicant's education and related experience.
